Winter in Vermont can feel long and dreary, but this February, we had a literal "ray of sunshine" arrive at Fairmont Farm in the form of a very small, very fluffy, and very cute new addition.
Meet Violet, our first-ever Mini Highlander!

A Special Partnership
You might be wondering how a Mini Highlander found her way into our herd. In 2025, we embarked on a fun new adventure in partnership with Maine Miniature Highlanders. Essentially, we are acting as a surrogate farm for them; we’ve put in several of their embryos, and our experienced cows are helping bring these tiny wonders into the world.
While most of the calves from this project will eventually head back to their home in Maine, we fell head-over-heels for one particular heifer. We decided she just had to stay—so Violet is officially a permanent member of the Fairmont family!
Tiny Stature, Big Personality
When we say "mini," we mean it. While a standard cow can be quite imposing, Violet is expected to be only about 36 inches tall when she is fully grown.
Highlanders are known for their iconic long coats and friendly dispositions, and Violet is no exception. She has been a total joy for our owners and employees to visit during chores. It’s hard not to smile when you see those fluffy ears and that curious face looking back at you!
On the Moove
Our goal for Violet is for her to be a "farm ambassador." Because she is so friendly and manageable, we plan to have her around as a pet and hope to bring her to various community events this summer.
Are you planning a summer event, a community fair, or a special gathering? Violet is looking for a few "gigs" to attend! She is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face and provide a unique photo op that guests will never forget. If you are interested in having Violet make an appearance at your upcoming summer event, please reach out to us—we’d love to chat about the possibilities.
What’s Next?
This adventure is just beginning. We are expecting another round of calves in late July and early August, and we are already hoping to keep another friend for Violet from that group.
Until then, stay tuned to our social media for "Violet Updates." We can't wait for you all to meet her in person!

I keep a tab open with Crazyig for when I need a break during work. They have a decent collection of browser games that run smoothly without any lag. The racing and shooting categories are where I usually end up spending most of my time.
Oh my goodness, Violet is absolutely adorable! Look at that fluffy little face! I'm currently pregnant and trying to keep my stress levels down, and honestly, staring at pictures of your sweet mini Highlanders is so incredibly calming that I'm convinced it needs to be officially added to the list of modern Hypnobirthing Techniques. What a beautiful little surprise for the farm. Welcome to the world, Violet!
Welcome to the world, sweet Violet! She is absolutely precious. Mini Highlanders always have the cutest fluffy faces, but she might just be the most adorable one yet! I was just dealing with some stressful updates regarding uk airports passenger travel, and popping over to your blog to see this tiny surprise was the absolute perfect antidote. Your farm updates always bring such a wonderful sense of peace and joy to my feed. Please keep the photos of little Violet coming!
