Farm Ownership

 

Since the formation of Fairmont Farm Inc. the farm has successfully followed through on a plan to transfer ownership.  This has allowed for former partners to exit and new partners to buy into the business.

Richard graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1986 with an Agricultural Science degree. Bonnie graduated from Saint Michael’s College in 1986 with a degree in Elementary Education. They were married in 1987 and began farming on their own that same year. In 1992 their farming operation became part of the newly formed Fairmont Farm Inc. Their oldest daughter Clara is a sophomore at Cornell University, majoring in Dairy Science. Ricky will be graduating from U32 High School in June, 2008 and will also be attending Cornell in the fall with a Dairy Science major. Their youngest child Isabel is 7 years old and in first grade at East Montpelier Elementary School.

 

Tucker Purchase

 

After high school Tucker attended SUNY Morrisville and received an associate’s degree in Agricultural Science in 1999. He then transferred to Cornell University to study dairy science, which led to a Bachelors degree in Animal Science in 2001. 

After graduation Tucker moved to California and managed a large dairy in Bakersfield.  In May 2002 he returned home to Vermont and became the herd manager at Fairmont Farm, Inc.  In 2005 he became a partner at Fairmont Farm.  He now lives in Craftsbury managing Fairmont Dairy.


Fairmont Farm, Inc. has been recognized as a "Dairy of Distinction" for the past 8 years by the Agency of Agriculture.
