  • We currently milk 320 cows and have 50 dry cows.

  • Cows are milked in a double 8 Alfa Laval parallel parlor with milk metering

  • The current average is 85 lbs per cow per day, with a 25,211 lbs rolling herd average

  • Cows are bedded with sand
     

  • All calves are custom raised at the heifer facility in East Montpelier

  • Bred heifers return to Craftsbury and are kept in a rented barn until they are close to calving

  • The forage to concentrate ratio of the TMR is 56:44, with 90% of the forage coming form corn silage and 8.5% from haylage and 1.5% is dry hay

  • We grow all our own haylage and corn silage, but purchase dry hay

  • All grain is purchase through a local feed company

  • Fairmont Farm Inc. does all the cropping work here in Craftsbury, the Dairy doesn’t own any cropping equipment.

  • In addition to Tucker the Dairy employs three full time milkers and two part time employees.
